Pastoral Care

Supporting the work of clergy and staff are volunteers who provide encouragement and friendship to St. James parishioners. They enhance parish life through a number of activities. Members of the parish family wishing to be involved with any of the groups may call the church office at 248-644-0820.

The Pastoral Care Committee is continually looking for more ways to bring our members together, especially our older members, to enrich our connections with one another, to have some fun and to share God’s love with each other.

Keeping in Touch

The Keeping in Touch group maintains contact with parish members who may be unable to attend services and participate in other church activities due to illness, disability or personal loss. This group writes notes and makes phone calls on a variety of occasions, including to welcome new parishioners, congratulate members for births and baptisms, celebrate birthdays and to offer support in times of loss or distress. This group also regularly connects with our Super Seniors (aged 90 and over) with monthly cards, visits and special baskets.

Baptismal blankets for our newest members are crafted by Keeping in Touch members and are presented at Baptism.

Visits to Parishioners

Hospital visits by our clergy can be arranged by contacting the church office to let them know about any parishioner who is entering the hospital.

At their request, parishioners may receive the Holy Eucharist at home. We have been blessed with several Eucharistic visitors trained to bring Communion to parishioners' homes. Please contact the church office to arrange a home visit.

VESTRY MEET AND GREET

Vestry members schedule periodic gatherings for anyone wanting to talk about all thing St. James. Information about these events are published in The Light and The Spirit, and all parish members are invited to attend.

 FLOWER MINISTRY

This delightful ministry of dividing up our weekly altar flowers from one large arrangement into three or four smaller vases brings beauty and joy to our members who are unable to attend church. Flower volunteers prepare the vases and deliver them on the last Sunday of each month.
